Detail (enlarged)

The knight on horseback was inspired by an illustration in the Lindisfarne Gospels. The style is of Celtic derivation.

I start with a very dilute solution of India ink and distilled water, and build up the layers to the desired value. Because India ink is waterproof (even if diluted), previous layers do not lift (as with watercolors). But by the same token, it is very unforgiving, as nothing can be "erased". I use very small brushes and a stippling technique (visible in Guinevere's dress).

The first line of the lyric reads, "We are planets in a heartless gravity."
